NANOSCIENCE, A DREAM OR A NIGHTMARE

NanoScience, a dream or a nightmare

What are we talking about?

Nanotechnology, that literally means any technology on a nanoscale that has applications in the real world. The definition of a nanoparticle is an aggregate of atoms bonded together with a radius between 1 and 100 nm. For several decades now, this technology has been largely trending, and the idea was initially created in the laboratories. The current technological limits will soon be reached. Nanotechnology is likely to have a profound impact on our economy and society in the early 21st century. Research in nanotechnology promises breakthroughs in areas such as materials and manufacturing, nanoelectronics, medicine and healthcare, energy, biotechnology, information technology, and national security. It is widely felt that nanotechnology will be the next Industrial Revolution.

Now you might wonder why nanomaterials are important.

These materials have created a high interest in recent years by virtue of their unusual mechanical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties. Some examples are given below:

  • Polymer-based nanocomposites are having a great potential for a broad range of applications including homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, sensors, filter applications, superhydrophobic coatings, and optoelectronics.
  • Nanostructured semiconductors are known to show various special non-linear optical properties, they are used as window layers in solar cells.
  • Nanostructured metal oxides find applications for rechargeable batteries. For its high transmission and significant surface area enhancement leading to strong absorption in dye-sensitized solar cells.
  • Nanosized metallic powders have been used for the production of gas tight materials, and porous coatings. They are suitable for metal-metal bonding, especially in the electronic industry.

We at ISHU INTERNATIONAL have a wide variety of nanomaterials available with us. We provide industrial and research grade metal oxide and metal nanoparticles. We also provide carbon nanotubes within different grades and variants from grams to bulk quantities.
